Think your production processes are too complicated and costly to automate? Think again. Universal Robots (UR) is deploying collaborative robots in a vast range of industries spanning OEM machine builders, manufacturers of medical devices and electronics, injection molding, machining, and packaging.

The UR5 robot arm weighs only 40.6 pounds, has a payload of 11 pounds, and a reach capability of 33.5 inches. The six-axis robot arm’s repeatability is +/- .004 inch, which allows quick precision handling of even microscopically small parts.

UR 5’s “big brother,” UR10, is Universal Robots’ newest addition. Weighing 63.7 pounds, the UR 10 has a payload of 22 pounds and a reach capability of 51.2 inches.

Because they are lightweight, the UR robots are easily moved around the production site to complete new automation tasks, and they can operate in the smallest of production areas. The robotic arm uses a unique, patented technology to prevent the robot from exceeding the forces mandated by ISO 10218 (soon to be adopted by RA1506).

Unlike room-sized, heavy automation technology, the lightweight and flexible UR robot can be used directly alongside humans with no safety guarding. Innovative force-sensing technology enables the robot to automatically stop operating if it comes into contact with an employee.

Training a UR robot to perform a task can be done via the intuitive touch screen provided with the robot — or by simply grabbing the robot arm to teach desired positions.

Either product can be programmed and implemented by users without any programming or robotics experience.
